What is the role of artists in communities - how can they contribute to their own and their communities’ sense of place.
Huon Beings is a documentary series that captures the diverse stories of life among people living in the Huon Valley.
Created by Digital Arts & Cultural Development Officer Mick Lowenstein of Huon Valley Council, the series features interviews with people from all walks of life throughout the region, who have taken the time to share their reflections of place and people.
Mick Lowenstein will lead the session discussing the project Huon Beings.
Mick will about how I go about making the Huon Beings films and how they are reflective of place. I think of it as collecting jigsaw pieces. I just keep gathering stories until pieces start to fit together. I start with a theme or topic I'd like to explore, a facet of life in the Huon Valley, and use people's responses to find the threads of stories that will weave together. The aim is to celebrate the place and the people and their stories and the particular flavour that the Huon Valley infuses into those stories.
ArTELIERISTAS, Karen Revie and Rosie McKeand will share their practice around a sense of place…
