Joel Roberts

Listening is central to Joel's work, whether in the role of musician, composer or teacher.

His music fuses conventional notated music, electronics and the sounds of nature and everyday objects. Just as important are the spaces and environments in which they are experienced. A fascination with the historical evolution of musical instruments is explored through the research, design and building of instruments from everyday materials .

Joel has maintained a guitar teaching studio in Hobart since 2011, teaching from home and at several schools in the area. At present he is developing programs to share a broader experience of music making and instrument building with intergenerational groups.
